Illegal aliens have been committing all kinds of crimes in America and voter fraud is no exception. In a new case of such nature, an illegal alien from Dominican Republic has been charged with voter fraud in Florida.
As reported by the Department of Justice on Monday, February 3, Carlos Jose Abreu was indicted in federal court over charges of voter fraud and illegal possession of a firearm. Abreu has been living in the U.S. for 20 years and has previously faced charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, endangering a child, and criminal restraint in New Jersey.
Abreu then moved to Florida, living in Broward County. The DOJ press release stated:
According to the recently returned indictment (case no. 25-cr-60015), Abreu also used the assumed identity of the American citizen victim to register to vote in September 2020, and to vote in the November 2022 federal midterm elections. It is also alleged that Abreu illegally possessed a firearm.
Over these charges, Abreu faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years if convicted as well as deportation.
Also this week, two other non-citizens were arrested in Florida for plotting to submit fraudulent voter registration applications. The DOJ named the suspects as Dmitry Shushlebin, a 45-year-old Russian national living in Miami Beach, and Sanjar Jamilov, a 33-year-old Uzbek national living in St. Petersburg. The press release from the DOJ states:
Shushlebin and Jamilov are each charged with one count of conspiring to submit fraudulent voter registration applications and give false information in registering to vote. If convicted, each faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
